Silent Saturday: Boys and Tea Parties

Saturday, May 4th, 2013

Yesterday my boys played downstairs while I worked upstairs writing this blog post. When I was finished I walked downstairs to discover this:

“Um. hey guys…what is my neti pot doing down here?”

“Oh we were having a tea party with it”.

And see here I thought having all boys meant I wouldn’t get to experience tea parties with my kids. Nope, I was wrong. They will happily play tea party…with something that has been UP MY NOSE!

This is how the rest of the conversation progressed:

Me – “Do you guys know that I use this to flush boogers out of my nose?”

Boys – “Cool! How does it work?”

Me – “Well, I stick this part in my nose. So do you see why you wouldn’t want to use this for a tea party?”

Boys – “Can you show us how it works?!?!”

Me – “So you are not grossed out at all by this?”

Boys – “We want to see you flush your boogers out!!”

*Sigh*. Silly me. Of course the mention of boogers would be exciting and not gross to my boys.

Guess I should think about getting them a real tea set, huh?

Happy Saturday All!

Silent Saturday: Spreading Some Love…

Saturday, April 27th, 2013

A mama friend just welcomed her third baby into the world! I love meeting squishy little newborns! I also really enjoy bringing meals to families after the arrival of a new baby. I know how much it meant to me when friends brought me post partum meals. I am happy to be spreading the love around!

Here’s what the care package included: Black Bean and Rice Salad, Chips and Salsa, Cashew Nut Cream with Strawberries, Veggies and Hummus, Lactation Bars, and Spiced Pecans.

I ran out of time to make hummus, so picked up some at Trader Joe’s instead. The Mediterranean is my favorite hummus ever!

Lactation Bars…yummy!! These are always a hit with new mamas.

A cold black bean and rice salad is quick and simple for a mama of a newborn. No preparation is required to enjoy it. Simply scoop it into a bowl and viola a hearty and healthy dish is ready to eat!

What are your favorite meals to bring to families during times of need or transition? Would love to hear from readers! 🙂

Happy Weekend All!

Silent Saturday: The Fun Places We Find Our Children

Saturday, March 30th, 2013

As a mom of young children, there are a lot of fun (and a few not so fun) unexpected surprises that occur throughout the day. Lately I have been finding evidence of my children’s presence, personality, and interests in random places.  For example:

Green craft sand in the hand soap

Pirate sword in silverware drawer

Water balloons in hair accessories basket

Happening upon little surprises such as these puts a smile on my face and joy in my heart! However the next two surprises weren’t quite as much fun when I initially discovered them….although I am laughing about them now. 🙂

Nail clippers in dreadlock wax

Dog treats in coffee grinder

What are some of the fun places you find your children?

Happy Saturday All!!

Silent Saturday: Hooray for Double Babywearing Mamas!!

Saturday, March 23rd, 2013

There are sooo many things I love about this photo! This is a mama friend on a hike today at one of my favorite local spots with two of her five children. She has her three year old on her back and her 18 month old on her front. Yeah, she’s a strong mama…in more ways than one! 🙂

What is even more special to me about this photo is that these are two of her adopted children and babywearing has been an awesome way for them to continue bonding as a forever family!

What are you weekend plans? Do they include babywearing? Hope so!!
