Sunday Funday Giveaway: Rockin’ Green Cloth Diaper Detergent

Sunday, April 28th, 2013

I recently tried Rockin’ Green Cloth Diaper Detergent for the first time. I have to say I am a huge¬†fan! From the edgy package design, to the great scents, the specialized formulas, and the overall effectiveness, Rockin’ Green is definitely Rockin!! Watch out for a full review later this week, but in the meantime I thought it would make a great giveaway. ūüôā

Rockin’ Green Cloth Diaper Detergent comes in 3 options: Classic Rock, Hard Rock, and Soft Rock. “Rockin’ Green was designed for different water types, so it’s important to find the right formula for your area” (Rockin Green, 2013). Which one you use depends on how hard your water is. The general recommendation from Rockin’ Green is as follows:

  • <60 ppm should use soft rock
<250 ppm should use classic rock
And anything more than that should use hard rock

Now¬†I will admit…¬†those numbers didn’t really mean much to¬†me at first. Turns out they are actually a water¬†hardness¬†level. You¬†might already know if you have hard or¬†soft water depending on the area you reside. Or you might have a hubby who knows. ūüėČ However if you don’t know you can typically have your water hardness level professionally tested for free by a pool/spa store, aquarium supply store, or¬†water softener company, etc. The map below provides suggested formula recommendations across the US.

Want to try¬†Rockin’ Green Cloth Diaper Detergent to get the stinkies out of your diaper stash?¬†Then be sure to enter this week’s giveaway for your chance to win a bag of Rockin’ Green¬†Cloth Diaper Detergent. Winner¬†gets to select formula for their water¬†hardness level. Winner will be announced Sunday, May 5. Winner will be notified via email and is asked to respond within 48hours in order to claim prize.

Good Luck All!

Product Review: Hippy Pits – All Natural Deodorant by Delish Naturals

Monday, July 30th, 2012

I have tried many several different brands of all natural deodorants mostly with disappointing results. While I don’t like the harsh and toxic ingredients found in many name brand deodorants, I also don’t want to be sweaty and/or stinky either. Usually I settle for harsh ingredients over stinky BO…BUT thanks to Hippy Pits All Natural Deodorant by Delish Naturals I may not have to settle any more! I have been using Hippy Pits for the last 2 weeks and am diggin’ it! ūüôā

What I like about Hippy Pits:

  • The ingredients – Hippy Pits is free of all harsh, synthetic¬†ingredients and full of soothing, natural ingredients. It is even free of baking soda. While baking soda is a common ingredient in many all natural deodorants, it can irritate the delicate underarm skin so it did not find it’s way into this refreshingly unique product. Just what exactly¬†IS in Hippy Pits? Ingredients include beeswax, apricot kernel oil, sweet almond oil, arrowroot powder, cornstarch, silk amino acids, vitamin E, and¬†essential oils.Oh how I¬†love turning over a product and reading familiar words in the ingredient list!
  • The Scent – Hippy Pits comes in fresh and fun scents with names as clever as the product itself. All products are scented with essential oils. I have Daisy Chain which is made from Bergamot, Geranium & Lavender. Shortly after I put it on for the first time, my mom even commented that I smelled good and asked me what I was wearing. She totally cracked up laughing at my reply, “Um, Hippy Pits deodorant?” ūüôā
  • Overall effectiveness – Okay this next part is a little embarrassing to admit, but because it provides valuable information about the effectiveness of the product I will share. I went four days without showering and relied exclusively on my Hippy Pits to keep me smelling fresh and clean. I was actually kind of surprised how well it worked during those four days. I even asked my hubby if I smelled funky and he assured me I was still cuddeable ūüėČ Hippy Pits also passed the running test for me. This is super¬†important because I don’t often have the opportunity to shower after a run before heading out the door. I need to be confident my deodorant will do its job well so I can be in public post-run without scaring people away.

Stuff I wasn’t crazy about:

  • Left my pits feeling kind of “tacky” – If you are accustom to using a gel deodorant this may not be an issue for you. I however typically use¬†a stick deodorant that is really dry so Hippy Pits felt kind of wet/tacky to me at first. I got use to the sensation over time but it was an adjustment.
  • Top does not close properly – This may be a¬†funky glitch that is unique¬†to my own particular stick of deodorant but for some reason the top of it will not close all the way. This does not interfere with or effect the product in any way…it just kind of bugs me. ūüôā
  • Left kind of a sticky residue after on my clothing after I went running – One time after a particularly hard run in humid weather, I noticed the pits of my shirt had some sticky residue on them. Correction my hubby noticed and pointed it out to me. I think during my run some of the deodorant came off with my sweat and it stuck to my clothing. I ran several different times with this deodorant and this only happened the one time. My guess is that it was a combination of the intensity of the run, the weather, and the fabric of the particular shirt I was wearing?¬†In any case it’s something I noted about using Hippy Pits.

All in all a great product that I would reccomend trying out if you are in search of¬†an all-natural, eco-friendly deodorant that smells nice AND is effective! ūüôā

Cranky Mommy Remedies

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012

A while back when I shared 25¬†tips to soothe a fussy baby, one reader replied by asking “what about tips for a fussy mommy?”. While she was only (kind of) kidding, I think she was on to something; moms need some strategies for nurturing themselves too! So alas¬†I offer you a few ideas of items to have on hand for when you are feeling grouchy yourself.¬†These are all-natural, tried and true crabby mommy remedies. I know because I am a cranky mom who has benefited from the following:

Essential Oils –¬†Aromatherapy¬†can¬†be very powerful in changing your mood!¬†There are a variety of scents available to provide calming and relaxation such as lavender or sandalwood. You can use them in a number of ways from adding a few drops to a warm bath, spritzing them into the air, or using them for a massage (be sure to dilute them in a carrier oil). A little goes a very long way so one bottle of your favorite essential oil will likely last you a long time.¬†If you don’t own any essential oils, please treat yourself to some! They are super multi-functional and highly¬†effective…I suspect that¬†you will love, LOVE¬†using essential oils!

Tea- A¬†hot cup of herbal tea can be instantly healing and soothing to one’s soul. Some teas such as chamomile¬†are specifically intending for inducing calm and relaxation. The nice thing about tea is that is takes only a few minutes to make for yourself, but the effects of it can last a whole afternoon.¬†When I start to feel edgy, a cup of tea can turn things around for me rather quickly. Try drinking a cup of herbal tea at the onset of a bad mood and see what it does for you. As the weather is starting to warm up, you may be less interested in hot drinks, which is another added bonus to tea…it’s delicious hot or cold.

Rescue Remedy – The first time I heard about Rescue RemedyI was¬†very pregnant with my second son and feeling¬†highly emotional like woman often do near the end of their pregnancy. The first time I tried using Rescue Remedy, I didn’t realize it was in a glass bottle and I broke it while trying to open the package. I looked at the brand new $20 broken bottle on the floor and my pregnancy hormones got the best of me…I started bawling. My oldest son (who was almost two at the time) sat down next to me and started crying too. So we sat there together crying for a bit until I finally decided I should probably clean the glass up. While my first attempt at using Rescue Remedy was not successful, it has since become a staple in our home. I use it during times of high anxiety, stress, or emotion for myself and/or the kids. What is it exactly? It is a flower essence blend of five individual flower remedies that help you cope during time of emotional imbalance. It comes in a liquid, cream, or edible form. I have a travel size bottle that I tuck into the front pocket of my diaper bag so it’s always readily available when needed.

What is in your mama care kit? Any special products, tools, or tips that you would recommend for dealing with a case of the crankies?
