Who is excited for the Great Cloth Diaper Change this year?!? I know I am! Our local group has worked hard for MONTHS to ensure it will be an awesome event for all those attending on Saturday, April 20. And I am certain our local group is not alone in their efforts. Coordinators from all over the world have been working hard behind the scenes (on a completely volunteer basis) to make this year’s event extra special!

Currently there are “285 hosts registered to hold world record events in 17 countries including Australia, Belgium, Canada, Switzerland, Chile, Germany, Spain, Finland, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Mexico, Malaysia, the Netherlands, and the US”(The Great Cloth Diaper Change, 2013). How cool is that!!

What exactly is the Great Cloth Diaper Change? It’s an attempt to break the Guinness World Record of 8,251 cloth diapers changed around the world at one time…with lots of fun mixed in too! The main purpose of the event is to show the world that cloth diapers are a real option for today’s families. The Great Cloth Diaper Change is intentionally scheduled around Earth Day to let families know that cloth diapers are an important environmentally friendly choice they can make.

Looking to attend an event in your area? Check out the map on the Great Cloth Diaper Change website to find a location near you. Each host site will be changing diapers at 11:00am local time (as opposed to 2012 where the emphasis was on simultaneous diaper changes. That meant that some events happened at 2am…talked about dedicated cloth diapering mamas!).

Now when attending the event keep in mind that the goal is to make it into the Guinness Book of World Record. Therefore you might be surprised at how structured the diaper change portion of the event is…in order for everything to be official there are some general guidelines that must be followed. But no worries because the coordinators will know exactly what to do and give you instructions beforehand. All you need to do is show up with your baby in a cloth diaper and have a spare cloth diaper to change him/her into. If you have more than one child in diapers, you will need one adult for every child during the official count so be sure to plan accordingly.

Many of the sites will also have awesome prizes to raffle off, games for the kids, light refreshments, vendors/booths to shop at, and more.
