Product Review: FLIP Diaper Cover with Organic Night Time Insert and Stay Dry Insert

Lookie here at the newest addition to our stash…new fluff is sooo much fun!

So what did we get? It’s a FLIP diaper cover in Sassy with snaps (I used to be a die-hard hook and loop closure gal, but have recently developed an affection for snap closures).

I wanted to try out both the Organic Night Time Inserts and the Stay Dry Inserts for comparison. Check them out side by side:

(Organic Night Time is on left hand side and Stay Dry Insert is on right hand side).

The Stay Dry Insert has 3 fold-down options to adjust the size from small, medium, to large.  It is made from super soft and absorbent microfiber.

The Organic Night Time Insert can be adjusted by folding in different directions (horizontal vs. vertical).  When folded it provides 3 absorbent layers of ultra-soft organic cotton.

I was eager to try out the Organic Night Time Inserts for overnights because my two year old has recently started waking me up in the middle of night and asking me to take off his diaper. We are in the early stages of potty learning (oh yeah!!) and wet diapers bother him. Not sure about you, but I am not a fan of waking up at night to change diapers SO I was eager to find an extra absorbent night time cloth diaper that would allow us all to comfortably sleep through the night.

Organic Night Time Insert

Much to my delight, the first night I used the Organic Night Time Insert my son slept fantastic! He did not wake up requesting “diaper off!”. In the morning I was slow to wake up and didn’t get to his diaper right away. He actually pooped in it before I got a chance to change him into a fresh diaper. And guess what? It was not a soggy, messy blowout like one might expect considering it had already been on his bum for over 10 hours by the time he pooped. In fact when I went to change him, I was able to just pull out the poopy insert and re-use the cover. Now THAT is impressive from a cloth diaper!

I really like how both the Organic Night Tine Insert and the Stay Dry Insert just lay right inside the diaper. It makes for easy diapering and easy laundering! I do however wonder if this type of insert would work as well for an young infant or newborn? It seems like it would be more likely to shift around and perhaps result in leakage? But for my toddler it worked wonderfully!

Both the Organic Night Time Insert and the Stay Dry Insert were super absorbant, yet not too bulky…pretty much exactly what you want from a cloth diaper! They are compatible with other diaper covers or could be used as inserts for pocket diapers.

The FLIP cover itself is awesome! The stretchy tabs allowed for a nice, custom fit and like many one size diapers the snaps adjust to accomodate babies from 8lbs to 35lbs. I was able to use the diaper cover for a day’s worth of diaper changes simply by turning over the cover, plopping the dirty insert into my pail liner, and laying a clean insert into the cover. This is definitely a nice economic and ecological feature of the FLIP diapering system.

In addition to the Organic Night Time Inserts and the Stay Dry Inserts, there is a third option; a disposable insert. These are a great option when you are traveling or your baby is in someone else’s care who is hesitant about cloth diapering.

Another awesome feature about the FLIP diapering system is there are several different package options available which further reduce the cost. There are many great packaging options to choose from so you can build a FLIP stash that works for your family at the very best price possible!

Have you tried FLIP diaper covers and inserts? If so what did you think of them? Would love to hear from YOU!

Great review! I’ve been cloth diapering my 5 month old from day 1 and mainly use Flip diapers with the stay dry insert. Ill have to get some overnight inserts when he gets a little older. I have not had any problems with the stay dry inserts moving around or leaking. It can get messy but it always stays inside – mostly on the insert but can end up on the inside of the cover. I’ve been really happy with the flip diapers. At night I currently use the bum genius elementals and they are great too.
