Healthy, Homemade Valentine’s Day Treats

healthy valentine's day treatsValentine’s Day is what I like to call a candy holiday. One of the many holidays that candy seems to be not only accepted, but expected. Since I like to live on the wild side, I prefer to skip the candy and go for a healthier treats instead. Here are some ideas to get you in the Valentine’s Day spirit without all the sugar.

Strawberry Protein Bites:

  • ¼-1/2 bag of Dark chocolate chips
  • 2 tbsp. of favorite nut butter
  • ½ pint of strawberries

Cut a V-shape a the top of each strawberry and then cut them in half so they look like cute hearts.

  1. Spread some nut butter on top of each strawberry.
  2. Melt the chocolate chips over low-medium heat in a small sauce pan.
  3. Once the chocolate is melted, drizzle it over the strawberries.
  4. Put them in the fridge for about half an hour until they harden.

If you love the idea of using strawberries for your treats (after all these are great to add to a lunchbox too!) you can cut the tops off the strawberries and hull them so there’s enough space to add some home made whipped cream and you can top it with some mini-chocolate chips or toasted coconut!

Another great option to try are Beet Cookies by Weelicious. The beets give them a really pretty pink color and cutting them into cute little heart shapes just makes them that much better! I promise they’re delicious and if you didn’t know about the beets you’d never know.
