The Best Gifts for First-Time Moms

Nothing makes you feel old like seeing huge advancement in mom gadgets and baby hacks since you had your babies. On the plus side, if you know a new mom or mom-to-be, there are some amazing products out there that can make life with a newborn so much easier!

Here are a few that have made me say, “I wish they had that when I had a new baby!”

Best Gifts for New Moms

1. Nursing reminder–You’d be amazed at how easy it is to forget which side your baby ate on, especially when that feeding was less than an hour ago. Most of us resort to a quick grope before baby latches on, because when you’re on two hours of sleep and your third set of Milk Bands broke after wearing them for just a week (true story), you’re just out of ideas. But these handy little magnetic clips are cute, cheap, and effortless.

2. Car Seat Sun Shade–This is amazing, and solves two problems: first, if you live anywhere hot, you’ll encounter the problem of having to cool the car down before you can put baby in, especially a rear facing baby who won’t be facing an air vent. Second, I’ve written before about the psychology involved in forgetting your baby in the car and why that can absolutely happen to anyone. If you always have the seat covered when baby is not in the car, this could also serve as a great visual reminder that would be visible from the driver’s seat.

3.New Mom Kit–This kit is the best idea ever. You don’t have to give it in person, and it’s full of stuff that every new mom doesn’t even know she needs yet, including: Bamboobies nursing pads, leak-free undies, pads, hair ties, lip balm, lotion, and a few other goodies for mom.

4. Postpartum Bath Herbs–Herbal baths help promote healing both in the bath and on the spot. They’re also organic and naturally antibacterial. Most new moms don’t realize how bruised and sore they might be after childbirth, and herbal baths help so much with the soreness, relaxing those muscles, and helping to heal bruises and tears quickly.

5. Lactation Cookies–There are so many different kinds of lactation cookies! Seriously, where were these when I was nursing? They send you the mix, and then all you have to do is pop them in the oven for hot, fresh cookies loaded with natural lactation supplements and great, all-natural nutrition for mom. Each mix makes 30 cookies, and you only need one to two cookies a day to get a boost in production.
